Better Business Decisions: Signs It's Time to Replace Your AC System

20 Jun 2017

Despite the fact that it can’t send emails, print paper or make copies, your AC system could be considered to be one of the most important pieces of office equipment in your business. Keeping your business environment comfortable for both employees and customers is absolutely integral to running any successful business.

If your employees are comfortable, it increases productivity, keeps them from becoming stressed and overheated and improves overall morale. If your customers are kept cool, they’ll spend more time in your store, be more likely to make purchases, and have a higher level of satisfaction with those purchases they make. It’s a win-win for everybody.

For this reason, it’s important to keep your air conditioning system running smoothly. The last thing you want is for it to break down at the height of summer. Here are some signs it might be time to replace your AC system.

It's Starting to Have Issues

If something breaks, fix it. If something breaks a lot, then you might need to think about replacing it. It’s almost always going to be cheaper to repair an AC unit rather than buying a completely new system. If you’re on the phone to the repairman every other day, then in the long run, it’s going to save you a lot of time, money and stress, to buy a new one.

It also can depend on what is wrong with your air conditioner when it breaks. For example, if there is a coolant leak, then spending money refilling the coolant is a waste of time and money as it’s only going to need to be filled again soon. You are much better off buying a brand new energy efficient model that won’t have any leaks or problems.

It's a Little Too Old

If your system is older than 15 years, you should look into getting it checked and replaced anyway. There have been some great advancements in energy efficiency technology that can save your business a lot of money and improve the indoor air environment. Once a system gets old, it starts to degrade faster. It’s really just a ticking time bomb, waiting to break. You’re much better off replacing it before that happens.

It's Inefficient

While it can be expensive to completely replace your AC system, an inefficient system can end up costing you more money in the long run. If you notice that the air conditioner has to stay on for much longer to achieve the same effects or that it struggles to keep your business cool on particularly hot days, then you might have an efficiency problem, which means it’s time for an upgrade.

Other Common Signs

If you start noticing there’s a bit of a smell or unpleasant odour in the air or coming from the air conditioner, or that there is moisture appearing around the unit, then these can also be signs it’s time to replace your system. The last thing you want your customers or employees to have to deal with is a whole lot of nasty smells coming from the vents.

It can be daunting to realise that you need to upgrade your AC system, but there are some really great options in the market at the moment that will save you money in the long run. Make sure you do your research and find a system that is energy efficient, suitable for your business’s cooling needs and comes with a good long warranty. If you’re proactive about the decision then you can choose a time for installing the new system that will have the least impact on your business.
